Powerface

I had to share this article with everyone, surely a makeup artist couldn't have done her makeup??

Uma Thurman Overdoes Face Powder at New York Gala

Uma Thurman gave flour power a whole new meaning.

The actress, speaking at the Feminist Press at the City University of New York's 40th annual gala, turned up at the Oct. 18 event with her face patched with powder!

Thurman's makeup mishap was clearly visible under the glaring lights of the stage, reports the Daily Mail.

In fact, the 40-year-old's usually flawless face appeared to be antiqued by hints of dust on the tip of her nose, around her eyes, and at her hairline.

What, no cobwebs?

While it is quite possible that the mother of two might have been enthusiastically baking a cake before the gala, it seems more likely that her unpolished appearance was the work of an overzealous makeup artist, reports the Daily Mail.

On the plus side, at least the "Kill Bill" star didn't have to worry that her nose was shining. Not even Rudolph's honker would glow beneath all that snow.

Breaking up with your makeup...

I'm sure many of you like me, find it hard to part with your favourite lipstick or mascara just like a favourite pair of shoes. Unfortunately all beauty and makeup products come with an expiry date & there comes a time where we must let go and toss our favourite products.  Most beauty and makeup products have a symbol like shown below which state what the expiry life is.

"3M" means once the product is opened it will have a 3 month expiry date. If the product does not show this symbol, use the guide below to determine the products shelf life.
  • Mascara — 3 months. (Some say 6 months, but many cosmetics experts recommend 3 months.)
  • Concealer — 6 to 12 months.
  • Cream Blush and Eyeshadow — 6 to 12 months.
  • Powder Blush and Eyeshadow — 1 year.
  •  Eyeliner and Lipliner Pencils — Up to 2 years.
  •  Liquid Eyeliner — 6 months or less.
  •  Lipstick — 1 year.
  •  Moisturizers and Skin Care — 1 to 2 years.
  •  Face Powder - 2 years
  •  Foundation (oil-based) - 18 months
  •  Foundation (water-based) - 12 months
  •  Fragrance - 18 months
  •  Lipgloss - 18 months
  •  Nail Poilsh - 12 months

In hot and humid climates like Australia, it is always wise to keep your cosmetics and skincare products away from direct sunlight. To also help prolong the life of your products wash your makeup sponges and brushes weekly with warm soap water, and leave them to dry naturally. Do not add water into drying mascara: it won't work, and you're just introducing more bacteria into the tube. Sharpen your eye liner and lip liner pencils regularly to get rid of the bacteria growth on the tips. And if your compact powder case is broken or has cracked, get a new one.

If you’re still unsure about a product, here are some warning signs that will tell you if it has expired:
  • The product’s smell has changed.
  • It has been exposed to prolonged heat.
  • There is an obvious colour or textural change.
  • Mould is evident.
If you notice any of the above signs Toss It Out and Discover a New Favourite!

IMATS verdict....

I recently attended my first IMATS in Sydney and I must say it was pretty awesome. I got to see Tom Savini (aka Sex Machine in Dusk Til Dawn) and Rae Morris speak. They were friendly and offered invaluable advice, which has made me rethink a lot of things I currently do. The makeup stalls were also pretty great and I found a few bargains. I only wish I had done more research prior to the show as I found out today the MUFE eyeshadows I purchased were $15 cheaper than their RRP. GRRR... If only I knew before and I would of Splurged.

Verdict: 2 Thumbs up
IMATS was very awesome. If your a makeup lover like me you will be in makeup heaven.
